Obituary of Helen Louise Bowman

Helen Louise Bowman was born on the Tranbarger farm in the Ross Campground Community. On January 31, 2024, she passed away peacefully on the Tranbarger farm at age eighty-three. Louise loved her family, her friends, her community, and she exemplified God’s Golden Rule “. . . love your neighbor as yourself.” Louise was a successful small business owner, and she retired in 1993 to dedicate her life to caring for her family. She was married to Lenvol Fielden Bowman (“Lynn”) for thirty-eight years, and she loved living life with her husband and family. She and Lynn traveled extensively with his friends and colleagues at Vulcan Materials Company. Louise loved entertaining with a close-knit group of family and friends from Hawkins County, and they traveled to numerous University of Tennessee football games, Elvis Pressley concerts, and never missed an opportunity to attend the horse races at Keeneland.

Louise loved her family, and she cared for many sick loved ones and provided assistance to numerous others in her community up until her last days on earth. She was a proud member of the Ross Campground School Girls Basketball Team, and she was a life-long member of Ross Campground United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Weldon Tranbarger and Lula Clark Tranbarger; her sister, Martha Tranbarger Gillenwater, and her husband, Lynn.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Lynn Tranbarger (Brenda); her daughter, Kathy Bowman Darter (Paul); her son, Robert Lynn Bowman (Whitney); her grandchildren, Blaine Lynn Gilliam (Kerri), Kelly Jo Moore (Kenny), Robert Fielden Bowman and Mary Caroline Bowman; great-grandchildren, River Gilliam, Lillie Gilliam, Thad Moore, and Stella Moore; nieces, Amy Gillenwater Bentley and Melissa Tranbarger Bell (John); great-nephews, Peyton Estepp (Raquel) and Carter Estepp; and great-nieces, Ainsley Bell and Maddie Bentley.

The family will conduct a graveside burial at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Richard Hayes officiating, immediate and extended family invited to attend. A reception will follow at Allandale Mansion in Kingsport from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ross Campground United Methodist Church, PO Box 785 Church Hill, TN 37642.
