Gloria Barwick Hunt - Class of '65
One of my very best friends in high school and especially the first couple of years after we graduated. We had so much fun and made so many memories.
Both of us coming from a rural upbringing, with the closest town very small and rural, we were not used to fancy restaurants or big city life. I remember
one time when we went to Jacksonville Beach. We decided to eat in a Chinese restaurant, having no idea what to order. Gloria ordered SPAGHETTI!
We laughed about that for years-Italian food in a Chinese restaurant. Some good looking guy invited Gloria to ride around the block with him on his mo-ped.
We stood on the sidewalk waiting for them to come by, finally, here they came with Gloria's long hair streaming behind her and the look of the most utter disgust on her face, as if to say, "get me off this
thing"! There was no danger, though! A bunch of us would drive down to Jacksonville during the night and park on the beach, sleep in the car until daylight and we could check into the motel
room (saving one night's cost of room-ha!). Well, when the sun came up and the beach became active, a group came walking by and one hollered "Hey, Trick!". I popped
up to see who was there that I knew. I didn't recognize any of them and wondered he they knew my "nick" name! Gloria reminded me that the tag on the front
of my car had my nickname on it. "Trick". HAHAHA. We were mostly fearless back then, but one time we had headed to Swainsboro from my house in Norristown, in
my sister's little Caravelle convertible. We got as far as the Ohoopee bridge on Highway 80 and the car completely went dead! It was so dark, with no houses anywhere
nearby, we were scared and didn't know what to do! Thankfully a car stopped and the driver was a pastor. He got us back to my house and all was well!
I remember a few years later after we both had married, Gloria was living in Baton Rouge,LA, but had come "home" for a visit and came to my house. She
stood in the front yard and raised her arms and declared "TREES"!!!. I don't think there were many trees where she lived. There are many more happy memories!
Gloria was so easy going and easy to like/love! Even though we had not seen each other in years, I still consider her one of my all-time best friends.
Rest in piece, my friend, and thanks for the precious memories. My heart is broken! — feeling sad.

I was fortunate to work with Gloria at Curves for several years. She was such a sweet lady and eager to help me learn the job. Gloria was always thinking of other people and loved helping her children and grandchildren. I am so glad that she had several more years to spend with her family after her first serious hospitalization. I am sure it meant the world to her. Chris Osborne
