Glen Bowen and I have been good friends for the past 70 years. We first met as neighbors, and I had the privilege of getting to know Glen and his parents, Emmett and Kate, quite well. Kate loved flowers and spent many hours planting and tending to her beautiful flower beds. Emmett loved to tinker in his well-stocked garage always building or repairing almost anything. He never threw anything away, saying, "You never know when you might need something." That must have made a lasting impression on me, since my garage seems to be "fully stocked" at all times, even today.
It has been said that we all, "become our parents," and there seems to be a lot of truth in that statement. Reviewing the lovely and candid photographs in Glen's "Tribute Wall" reminds me about how closely Glen resembled his dad both in facial appearance and in countenance. Glen reflected his mom's gentle and kind spirit. Glen was a good person, friend, and neighbor. We had fun and shared many good times together. Glen was a bit shy, but he always enjoyed a good laugh with his friends, as he displayed his true outgoing self. He was always willing to help others, as he was a gentle, loving, and caring person. To the many friends and "family" of Glen who are grieving, may the Peace of God be with you.
Glen practiced his Christian faith and spirit by obeying the second most important of God's Commandments, "Love your neighbor as yourself." (See Luke 10:25-37) We all should honor Glen Bowen and his "life well-lived" by following his example and Jesus Christ's immortal words, "Go and do likewise." F. Carl Hensley, Texas
