I remember Coach for the kindness he showed my brother and myself by taking us to a Va Tech Spring game to see Frank Mooney play. And his 4-4 defense, lay your ears back and hit’em the mouth. Thanks giving your time, guidance and mentorship to make young men better. Jeffrey Williams, Blue Knight forever

To the Crabtree family. We at Crockett Ridge Golf Course were very saddened to learn of Fred's passing. He was a pleasure to spend time with. It was always fun when a former player or student came by. It was like they had seen each other yesterday, even it had been years. It was clear that he had a positive impact on many people over His life. He is missed.

Judy and girls. So sadden to hear the passing of a remarkable Coach teacher and friend. Fred was loved and admired by many. Coach Crabtree touched many lives in Coeburn. Coach just had a way of making everyone feel special. What a priviledge it was to be on the same team and coach with Coach Crabtree. Fred was one on the good guys and will always be remember by lots. Love and Prayers Jim and Pamela Huff

The first time I remember seeing Fred was when I was in Mrs. Crabtree kindergarten class. It was before the flood and we went to their house and played in the yard. I'm so sorry for your loss. He will be missed.

Judi and family,
My heart goes out to you. Prayers for comfort. peace and sweet memories. I had Coach Crabtree, in ninth grade science. His signature trademark: Insect collection and classification being displayed in a cigar box
Bug collecting was part of the Science class, that gave him time to plan for Friday night football. Each day we met, called rolled and dismissed us to go collect.
Precious memories that can put smiles on our faces!
Prayers

It is said the most valuable place in the world is the graveyard because People died with so many possibilities, dreams and opportunities that they did not pursue or fulfill. So the key to a successful life is to leave this world empty. Coach had a very successful life because he emptied himself into all of us who knew him. Coach Crabtree was a remarkable man and he will be missed but never forgotten. To Judi, Meredith, and Lindsay thank you for sharing your husband and Dad and allowing me to be a part of your family.

Words cannot express the love and gratitude I have for Coach Crabtree... He was literally the guy who would give you the shirt off of his back! He's also the one who would be honest with you and tell you that you have something stuck in your teeth or that your fly was unzipped. Oh, he's also the one teacher who would fix a true/false test where all the answers were true, and no one got a 100 on because they were convinced that all of the answers couldn't be true. He's also the guy who'd gas up his Volkswagen Jetta during football recruiting season to take his players to visit schools on recruiting trips. He's the coach who would call a time out to ask his running back if we were close enough for him to see the end zone pylons so he could see to run between 'em without running out of bounds. He's the one who'd feed you when you were hungry. He's the one who could tell you about the different paths in life available for you to choose and what was likely to be at the end of each one of them, but he wouldn't tell you which one to choose, he left that up to you. He was kind, he was generous, he was honest, he was fair, he was genuine, he was supportive, he was caring, he was wise, he was full of humor, and most of all he was full of life and encouraged others to be... Through his tutelage and influence his students and players have enjoyed life across a broad professional spectrum, some became teachers, bankers, partners in firms, small business owners, technicians, corporate and government executives, fire chiefs, miners, truckers, contractors, military officers, combat veterans, nurses, doctors, police officers, pharmacists, and the list goes on... Fred Crabtree left this world a better place!
Coach, thank you for being a bright star in my life and the life of others you touched! Judi, Meredith and Lindsey thank you so much for sharing your husband and father with so many of us! He will always be a part of me and he will live on in my thoughts and memories...

Fred was like a 2nd Father to me growing up with the Crabtree’s. He was a gentle giant and had so much love for his family, and taught men everywhere what the definition of a man was. You will be missed Fred, but not forgotten as we will see you again in clouds and our dreams. We love you always.
