Obituary of Shirley Mae Darnell
Kingsport – Shirley Mae Grizzle Darnell, 78 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton following a long illness. Born in Scott County, she had lived most of her life in Kingsport. She was a member of Full Gospel Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah Jane Grizzle; daughter, Barbara Sharp; granddaughter, Kellie DePriest; sisters, Gillie Darnell and Zola Hart; brothers, Harold, Odell, Massie, Lloyd, Emerson, Carl and James.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 42 years, Sidney “Sid” Darnell; daughters, Michelle Berry and husband Jeff, Patricia Tipton, Helen Blair and husband Larry and Debra Ownby; sister, Helen Darnell and husband Bernard; grandchildren, Amber, Lorie, Matthew, April and Scottie; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City.
A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Melburn Farmer and Pastor Jimmy Gose officiating. Music will be provided by Bernice Farmer and Charlene Gose.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Pallbearers will be John Trent, Logan Trent, Luke Trent, Jason Glover, Jordan Glover, Scottie Tipton, Jacob Tipton and Zakary DePriest.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amber Glover for the care and love shown to Mamaw Shirley during her illness.
