Obituary of Joey Wayne Franklin

Joey Wayne Franklin 49, of Kingsport passed away on November 15, 2019 at his home after a brief battle with cancer and is now fishing in Heaven. Joey graduated from Sullivan North High School in 1988 and also received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in 1992. He was an avid UT football fan and he also loved bass fishing. Some of Joey’s favorite memories were getting to see the Space Shuttle launch with his dad, going out west with his uncle Ed, and bass fishing on Douglas Lake.

Joey was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edward and Helen Ragsdale; paternal grandparents, Clifford and Inez Franklin; uncles, Wayne and Bill Ragsdale.

Survivors include his loving parents, Ronnie and Betty Ragsdale Franklin; precious furbaby, Cooley II; brother, Ben (Amy) Franklin; nephew, Zane Franklin; niece, Marlee Franklin; uncle “big brother”, Edward (Cathy) Ragsdale; aunts, Sherry Ragsdale, Connie (David) Church, and Peggy (Nylan) Shah; great-uncle, Martin (Pat) Cain; great-aunt, Wanda Ragsdale; “little sister”, Melissa Horne; uncle Joes boys, Ethan and Jackson Horne; brothers from another mother, Eddie (Rhonda) Ragsdale, Daryl (Pam) Woodruff, David Cain, Paul Aesque and Renee, Ronnie (Gail) Puckett, Todd Cox, Dal Cox, and Larry Neal; special cousins, Jeremiah, Davy, Vondi, Tosha, Rick, and Nieesha; Eastman Bass Club; Fanchers Campground family; Fishing Church; uncle Joe’s special young friends who he taught to fish, Aiden, Tucker, Sydney, Arianna, Katie, and Madison; along with a host of friends and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at their home. A celebration of life service will follow with memories shared by his family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ballad Health Cancer Center, angel nurses, Jean, Shelby, and Whitney for their loving care.
